Topics

This project supports Somagep/pep water utilities in Mali to become more (financial) resilient, data-driven, and climate-adaptive. Key focus areas are reducing Non Revenue Water (NRW), with development of the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Hydraulic modelling, develop of a pro-poor strategy and implementation, and improve water quality monitoring.

Results

One of the main goals of this partnership is to help SOMAGEP reduce Non-Revenue Water (NRW) in Bamako and in major peri-urban cities across Mali. Together with WaterWorX, SOMAGEP has created an interdisciplinary team dedicated to NRW reduction. This team is developing District Metered Areas (DMAs) and hydraulic models, using GIS data to gain a clear overview and accurately target areas with high NRW.

Another key goal is to develop SOMAGEP’s laboratory for monitoring both surface water and water in the distribution network. The laboratory’s knowledge and expertise have grown significantly with support from the WaterWorX team.

Finally, the partnership is advancing the development of a pro-poor strategy, which is now well progressed and close to implementation.
