World Waternet supports the Surinaamse Waterleiding Maatschappij (SWM) in a partnership that boosts operational procedures for a resilient water supply. The partnership focuses on improving the performance of the La Liberté water treatment plant and building SWM’s internal capacity in project management, asset management, and risk management.
Since commissioning, La Liberté has struggled with equipment failures and fluctuating water quality from the Suriname River. To respond, SWM and World Waternet jointly assessed the treatment process, developed a roadmap for improvements, and identified cost-effective upgrades. Alongside these efforts, three capacity-building projects were launched:
A delivery plan for drinking water security
Development of an asset management strategy
Risk management training
