Topics

At the heart of our consortium lies a simple belief: real, lasting change grows from within. In Shalla, we’re partnering with local leaders and communities to build resilience, improve health, and unlock socio-economic opportunity.

Our approach: PIP in action

  • Participatory Planning: We guide residents through our Proven Implementation Pathway (PIP), ensuring every decision (from vision to execution) is driven by the initiative and ownership of the end users.
  •  Capacity Building: Through hands-on training, we strengthen Heban Negelle Siraro Water Supply and Services (HNS), guaranteeing the reliable operation of the drinking-water system.
  •  Hygiene & Sanitation Awareness: Engaging schools, health centers, and households, we deliver practical workshops and follow-up support to spark lasting behavior change.
  • Regreening & Stewardship: Armed with insights from the Community Resilience Assessment, residents will plant the seeds (not just trees) for a greener Shalla, guided by their own vision and stewardship.

Results

Our partenership aims to deliver sustainable water management in Ethiopia’s Shalla region by strengthening HNS through four key objectives.

  • First, we will significantly increase and stabilize water supply capacity: boosting production, reducing losses, and ensuring reliable service to underserved communities.
  • Second, we will enhance asset management practices by implementing a robust decision-making framework for the Board, enabling data-driven prioritization of maintenance and investment activities.
  • Third, we will build local capacity through targeted technical assistance and hands-on training, empowering utility staff and the HNS governance body to operate and maintain infrastructure efficiently.
  • Fourth, we will secure financial sustainability by “following the money”: improving billing systems, reducing non-revenue water, and diversifying revenue streams to cover operating costs and future expansions.

Together, these integrated themes will ensure long-term resilience, genuine local ownership, and elevated socio-economic wellbeing throughout the Shalla region.
