Water utilities of Adama, Hawassa & Shashemene
Ethiopia’s rapidly expanding cities face growing sanitation challenges; just 7% of citizens have access to basic facilities, and overflowing septic tanks and untreated sewage threaten water quality and public health. In response, World Waternet has started a multi-city WOP with Adama, Hawassa, Shashemene and the Ministry of Water and Energy to work together on nationwide inclusive urban sanitation.
We work demand-driven and on-the-job, delivering trainings and work out (nature-based) solutions together with our Ethiopian partners. Hands-on capacity building for instance with trainings on vacuum truck and asset management, and support for the large FSTP plans, strengthens the utilities in establishing dedicated sanitation teams.
