Uniting the water sector with the Palestinian Water Authority in the West Bank
The water sector in Palestine faces major challenges, including limited access to quality water due to political and economic constraints, institutional fragmentation with over 300 service providers, poor infrastructure, high water losses, and inadequate revenue generation. These issues result in unreliable services and low public willingness to pay, threatening sustainability. The Palestinian Water Authority (PWA), established in 1995, is responsible for managing water resources and implementing water policies, but it struggles with institutional reform amid limited resources and political instability. To support PWA, Dutch partners World Waternet and Waterproef , representing the Dutch Water Authorities (DWA) within BlueDeal and waterworx projects, are working in North Hebron area and Salfit Governorate in the West Bank. Their goal is to improve access to clean, sufficient water and assist in water sector reforms. The partnership brings in Dutch technical expertise to address governance, policy, integrated water management, operational efficiency, and wastewater services.
