Topics

This partnership focuses on enhancing water and sanitation services in Morogoro's urban communities, especially for the most vulnerable. The main objectives are:

  • Reduce non-revenue water through cost recovery and operational improvements.
  • Reconnect low-income areas by rehabilitating water kiosks and extending access to safe, affordable water.
  • Strengthen water security by restoring catchment areas, planting trees, and providing climate awareness training for community stewardship.
  • Build institutional capacity by advancing human resources strategies, including gender equality and social inclusion, and improving long-term investment planning.

Results

This partnership aims to improve the livelyhood of communities in the Morogoro urban area, by focusing on improving the delivery of water and sanitation services, with attention given to the poorest. In Phase 2 of the WaterWorX programme (2022-2026), the partnership will focus on:

  • Non-revenue water and cost recovery measures.
  • Connecting the disconnected by improving water services in low-income areas by rehabilitating water kiosks.
  • Climate proof watershed management and water production by preserving water resources and catchment areas by planting trees and implementing awareness training.
  • Organisational development in the field of human resources (including gender equality and social inclusion), and investment planning.

Water kiosks installed

These kioks are installed to serviece low income areas in Mororgoro. Customers prepay their water consumption with MORUWASA, then use the credits to collect water from these kiosks.

Understanding the location of your pipes, pumps ,and connections is a crucial part of tracking water loss and maintanance. Geograpghic Information Systems (GIS), allow water utilities to get a comprehensive view of their assets.
