Exciting new collaboration enhances GIS education and water management in Lao PDR
04 September 2024We are excited to announce a new collaboration between World Waternet, The Nam Papa (water utility) Luang Namtha, and Department of Urban Environmental Planning, Faculty of Architecture, National University of Laos, This innovative partnership aims to bridge the gap between academic learning and practical application in the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and water management.
GIS course and internship opportunity
This semester, bachelor students from Department of Urban Environmental Planning, have had a 16-week GIS course that will be complemented by a 4-week internship. This program offers students the invaluable opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge in real-world scenarios. Three selected students will have the chance to intern directly with The Nam Papa Luang Namtha, working intensively on GIS projects in three different districts.
Hands-on learning in GIS and water management
During their internship, the students will engage in hands-on GIS tasks, contributing to the development and optimization of the water supply system in Luang Namtha. This experience promises to be a rich learning opportunity, allowing students to gain practical insights into both GIS technology and water management processes.
Strengthening collaboration and GIS data expansion
The collaboration aims not only to enhance students' educational experience but also to contribute to the expansion of GIS data and usage in the Nam Papa Luang Namtha. If this initial exchange proves successful, we are optimistic about the future continuation and expansion of this partnership with the Faculty of Architecture, National University of Laos.
Building the future of water management in Lao PDR
We believe this initiative will be a significant step forward in developing skilled young professionals, ready to step into the water supply organizations. It can foster sustainable and long term exchanges and improvements on data management in the water sector in Lao PDR. Stay tuned for updates on the progress and impact of this exciting collaboration.
