World Waternet receives CO₂-compensation certificate

15 April 2020

Our aim is to help achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG6) on clean, sufficient and safe water & sanitation for all. We support public water organisations worldwide through performance improvement in water cycle management. Through local Water Operators' Partnerships we strengthen capacity, reduce risks and thus make governance and operations more bankable for investments in the water sector. We strive to do this in the most sustainable manner; socially, economically and environmentally.

Emission compensation

In order to perform our core business, we cannot avoid flying. Of course we try to keep the amount of flights to a minimum, but we cannot escape the fact that we emit CO₂ each year. One of the most wide-spread mechanisms for offsetting emissions is very simple - planting trees. Since 2019, we give back to nature by compensating all our flights' carbon emission through planting trees.

Trees for All

Trees for All is an organisation that implements reforestation projects (You are leaving this website) to create a healthier climate. Their projects are certified and guarantee the amount of CO₂ captured. Trees for All prefers projects in developing countries, as these projects protect existing rainforest, but also improve the living conditions of local communities. An added bonus is that trees grow faster in the tropics, so they absorb more CO₂.

Why planting trees?

Trees retain the climate’s natural balance and help ensure a green and healthy planet. They absorb CO₂ from the air, storing the carbon and releasing oxygen. Trees are also key players in water management, which is why forest planting and conservation is important in our projects. Trees reduce erosion of river banks, silting up of water basins and help maintain groundwater levels. Trees are an important part of the water cycle.
