World Waternet becomes CO₂ partner with Trees for All

12 August 2019

Our aim is to help achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG6) on clean water & sanitation. We support public water organisations by offering sustainable, integral water solutions. Through local Water Operators' Partnerships, we aim to improve the performance, build capacity, reduce risks and thus make governance and operations more bankable for investments in the water sector. We strive to do this in the most sustainable manner; socially, economically and environmentally - to support public water organisations by offering sustainable, integral water solutions. But in order to perform our core business, we cannot avoid flying.

Emission compensation

Of course we try to keep the amount of flights to a minimum, but we cannot escape the fact that we emit CO₂. One of the most wide-spread mechanisms for offsetting emissions is very simple - planting trees. For 1 ton of CO₂, 50 trees have to grow for one year.

From now on, we give back to nature by compensating all our flights' carbon emission through planting trees. We are thrilled to announce that we have partnered with Trees for All (You are leaving this website) to make this happen. This way, we try to be as circular as we can be.

Trees for All

Trees for All is an organisation that implements reforestation projects in Bolivia, Uganda and the Netherlands to create a healthier climate. Their projects are certified and guarantee the amount of CO₂ captured. Trees for All prefers projects in developing countries, as these projects protect existing rainforest, but also improve the living conditions of local communities. An added bonus is that trees grow faster in the tropics, so they absorb more CO₂.

Why planting trees?

Trees retain the climate’s natural balance and help ensure a green and healthy planet. They absorb CO₂ from the air, storing the carbon and releasing oxygen. Trees are also key players in water management, which is why forest planting and conservation is important in our projects. Trees reduce erosion of river banks, silting up of water basins and help maintain groundwater levels. Trees are an important part of the water cycle.
