Malian neighbourhood Fitiribougou receives water house connections from Putrenovatie.nl

18 October 2018

Earlier this year, Putrenovatie.nl donated an amount for water house connections to the people of Mali. This donation was very well received by World Waternet’s partner SOMAGEP. Mali is a dry and poor country, hit hard by the effects of climate change. Year after year, the country struggles to provide sufficient water to its population.

Tuesday 2 October, SOMAGEP and World Waternet offered 13 water house connections to the Mayor of ‘Commune V’ in Bamako. Mr. Amadou Ouattara was very pleased to receive them at his office. After a short explanation about Putrenovatie.nl (You are leaving this website) and how they support the partnership of SOMAGEP and World Waternet, the formal contract was handed over.

The past months were dedicated to the technical and financial preparation of the house connections. One house connection costs around 237 euro. Low income families in Mali are not able to muster up these costs, therefore a subsidy is provided by SOMAGEP of 192 euro. The additional costs are therefore reduced to merely 45 euro, an amount that is considered as a feasible contribution for most households. With the donation of Putrenovatie.nl, we were able to provide the subsidy to 13 households. The neighbourhood Fitiribougou in Commune V in Bamako was selected by SOMAGEP to install these house connections.

Together with the employees of the Commune, SOMAGEP selects 13 households that meet the subsidy requirements. It is expected that within 4 weeks, the house connections will be installed. When that happens, we will get back to you!
